Day 19 Torres del Paine to Puerto Natales
When we first looked out of our window it was drizzling and very misty so impossible to see the mountains. The mare and foal were still in the field along with a couple of familiar looking Black Headed Gulls which look the same as the ones we get at home. Here they are called Brown Hooded Gulls.
We had the morning free so we used the spa and had fun in the very warm swimming pool with many different types of water massage jets. We then took a final walk to a different part of the river but it was absolutely freezing cold and very windy. We just got back to the hotel before heavy rain arrived. We had seen a very striking small bird while in Torres del Paine but I couldnt identify it. I asked staff and guides at the hotel and they either didnt know or gave me a wrong identification. I finally found it on the internet and it is an Austral Negrito. It was often seen with a brown bird and this was the female.

We left the resort at 2.00 pm for the journey to the same hotel in Puerto Natales that we stayed in 3 days ago. We had some stunning views of the National Park.
It was raining heavily when we arrived at our hotel but within half an hour the sun was shining and it looked quite nice. However when we went outside it was very cold and windy and it felt more like our winter. It is strange as although the weather here is very cold in what is almost midsummer, we are at the same latitude as London is in the northern hemisphere where it would be much warmer at this time of Spring. We took a taxi into Puerto Natales and had a walk around and a meal before returning to the hotel. According to the guide book, many of the houses are constructed from tin.
